Description
Bacteriophages (phages) represent a very promising alternative to antibiotics to combat infections caused by Shiga Toxin producing E. coli O157. In this research project, two different O157-specific bacteriophages will be genetically engineered to effectively control E. coli O157. In addition, a scalable setup for phage propagation in bioreactors under strictly defined conditions will be established, aligned to current QbD and GMP principles. Novel real-time monitoring and control concepts will be implemented to optimize production yields and pave the way for broader use in medical applications.
