Avatar Demonstrator: VR Control for Humanoid Robots
AVATAR lets visitors control a humanoid robot in VR, seeing through its eyes and manipulating objects via intuitive, body-based teleoperation.
Description
AVATAR is a hands-on demonstrator that allows people to control a humanoid robot using virtual reality. By wearing VR glasses, users see through the robot’s eyes via a live camera stream and can teleoperate its arms and hands through natural body movements. This creates a strong sense of embodiment and telepresence, making human–robot interaction intuitive and engaging.
The project is designed as a public demo to showcase how VR, robotics, and AI can work together. Visitors can safely manipulate objects and explore the capabilities and limitations of current humanoid robots, gaining an accessible and memorable insight into modern robotic systems and human-in-the-loop control.
