Description

The Migros Aare Bern is realizing a highly frequented central location with various types of businesses at the Bern railway station. On an area of 10,000 square meters, an experience, education and shopping center is being designed in the immediate vicinity of the train station (called Wave). Located in the western part of Bern's train station.

Since an already existing building will be reused for this project and limited space conditions will also prevail on the site, dense crowds of people are expected. To clarify the extent to which logistics and/or visitor bottlenecks can be expected, the entire building was simulated and examined for capacity bottlenecks.

When designing the scenarios, the goal was to detect any possible bottlenecks. Both logistics and visitor processes. Attention was also paid to the interaction (interference) of the two currents. As suggested by the client, a typical course of the week and the days selected from it were considered. For the days, only the critical periods of time visible from the input data were examined in more detail. A baseline scenario and a scenario increased by 50% were simulated for both logistics and personnel simulation.
