Psychology of Social Transformation

We study how individuals, organizations, and communities experience and manage transformation. Together with partners from practice, education, and politics, we develop approaches based on evidence from psychology research to shape social change in such a way that participation, well-being, and cohesion are strengthened.

Research on social transformation

Our work is evidence-based and participatory. We combine qualitative and quantitative analyses with formats such as workshops, co-creation labs, field studies, and evaluations. We make the dynamics of social change visible in different fields of action and, together with our partners, develop sound bases for decision-making and interventions. Our work is based on the findings and methods of work, organizational, social, personality, and positive psychology.

Our focus areas

Based on our many years of expertise, our research addresses central social challenges and contributes to social change in a scientifically sound and constructive manner.

Our research focuses on four areas of application:

Current research projects

Topic-specific project search at university level

Use the project search on the ZHAW homepage to find specific research projects related to your area of interest using differentiated filters.

Global network for research and practice

For our research focus areas, we are purposefully establishing new and additional research partnerships. We are utilizing our international contacts and networks, among others our contacts in the context of the preparations for and implementation of the International Congress of Applied Psychology, which will be held in Zurich in 2030.

The aim is to facilitate international and interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge and innovative solutions in our areas of research on transformation. We are seeking strategic collaborations within the School of Applied Psychology and at the ZHAW for joint projects. Our external cooperation partners include the following, among others: University of Lausanne, Vilnius University (Lithuania), Christ University (Bangalore), BSP Business School Berlin.
