Description

In this project, the exercises provided to the students are to be automatically individualized. For this purpose, the exercises and exams solved by the students are analyzed and theand the missing competences will be identified. This approach should generate exercises optimized for each student and therefore provide optimal conditions to achieve the necessary mathematical competencies.

In mathematics, the same exercises are currently distributed to all students of a study program in order to deepen the material. The personal abilities and previous knowledge of the students are disregarded. This means that the exercises are only based on the learning objectives of the subject and not on the individual knowledge and skills of the students. The individual knowledge of the students is at least partially known after thefirst semester examination is at least partially known. We therefore have enough information to create personalized exercises for the students based on their needs.Especially weaker students can benefit from such personalized courses. can benefit. The creation of these personalized exercises is, however, for an instructor by hand with a reasonable amount of work. Therefore this process should be automated.

With the help of today's computer algebra Systems and Latex, it is very easy to generate exercises with the corresponding solutions automatically. For a specific subject area (derivation) a non-personalized series of exercises has already been generated automatically using the software Mathematica. software. The software Mathematica is very expensive and therefore cannot be used.be used. However, in order to write a program that can fulfill the above-mentioned tasks, it is necessary to catalog the mathematical exercises on the one hand, and on the other hand link the test to the cataloged exercises.

Project goals

A program for the automatic generation of mathematics exercises will be developed. We focus here on a part of the mathematics lectures here at the Department N, in particular we focus on the topics integration and the differential equations. The following steps are performed:

  • Cataloguing of exercises and exact definition of the boundary conditions for the reasonable creation of exercises
  • Selection of the computer algebra system and creation of a template for the creation of the exercises the exercises
  • Create a program to use the cataloged exercises to create series of exercises onon the topic of integration and differential equations.
  • Integration of the individual exam results to create personalized exercise series.
