Programme structure

The MA in Language and Communication can be completed on either a full-time or part-time basis. The degree programme comprises core modules as well as one of four practice-based professional profiles.

Study full-time or part-time

The full-time study programme lasts three semesters. The part-time study programme lasts four or six semesters.

Programme structure

The Master’s degree programme consists of academically oriented core modules and one of four practice-based profiles: Strategic Communication Management, Multilingual Communication Management, Linguistic Diversity Management or Conference Interpreting.

Core modules

In the core modules, you acquire the academic foundations and methods for engaging with language(s), cultures, language technologies and communication in a reflective manner. In the optional modules, you deal with the following topics:

Language, Thinking, Action module:

  • Language and organisation
  • Language, subject and identity
  • Language and international business  

Transdisciplinary Project Design module:

  • Tech literacy
  • Accessible communication  
  • Creative content creation

Research Project Design module:

  • Data collection: user-centred design methods, survey and questionnaires, interviews and focus groups, corpus construction
  • Data analysis: statistics (quantitative data analysis), coding (qualitative data analysis), corpus analysis  

Leadership & Change Management module:

  • Strategic marketing
  • Professional ethics  
  • Intercultural mediation

Master’s thesis:

For your Master’s thesis, you choose a current topic from the world of practice, develop research-based solutions and, in doing so, shape your own individual competence profile.

Four practice-based professional profiles

In your chosen practice-based professional modules, you gain expertise and hands-on experience needed for professional practice – allowing you to individually tailor your professional qualification. You can choose from four profiles:

The MA in Language and Communication comprises 90 ECTS credits:

The semester lasts 18 weeks:

Semester start: calendar week 8 (spring semester) and 38 (autumn semester)

Programme start: spring (mid-February)
