School of Social Work

Research

Social developments are constantly raising new social issues for practitioners, policymakers and academics. Social work contributes to overcoming these challenges by placing socially relevant topics at the centre of its research projects.

Research projects

Research and development at the School of Social Work at the ZHAW focuses on four key topics:

Cooperation

Our research projects are based on socially and professionally relevant issues. The projects are designed to help bridge the gap between theory and practice, knowledge generation and knowledge application. Projects are supervised and implemented by qualified, well-networked researchers with extensive knowledge of the social and educational systems.

«Our research findings serve as a basis for important policy decisions. Anyone who wants to implement such decisions must be able to rely on evidence-based knowledge.»

Miryam Eser Davolio, ZHAW lecturer

Collaboration with internal and external partners

Our research groups work with internal and external partners in various ways:

Clients

The ZHAW School of Social Work conducts research on behalf of the federal government, cantons and municipalities, public and private institutions, foundations, NGOs and professional associations. It also implements projects supported by national research funding bodies and private foundations (e.g. Swiss National Science Foundation, Commission for Technology and Innovation, Age Foundation).

«I have great confidence in the ZHAW research team. Their comprehensive evaluation and recommendations formed the basis for the reorganisation of special needs education in our city.»

David Hauser, Head of the Winterthur School Board
