Center for Competition and Commercial Law
“Switzerland’s key to success is a competitive economy. Sound knowledge of cross-border business processes and international business and competition law are essential in a globalized economic environment.”
Prof. Patrick L. Krauskopf, PhD, Head of Center for Competition and Commercial Law
Competition law, arbitration law, and commercial law form the core competencies at the Center for Competition and Commercial Law. Our experienced, highly qualified faculty contributes to the transfer of this knowledge to the professional world by offering modules for BSc, MScs, and customized continuing education programs, hosting specialist conferences, providing services, conducting research projects, and producing publications.
Degree Programs and Continuing Education
The lecturers and research associates affiliated with the Center for Competition and Commercial Law lecture in the degree programs of the Department of Business Law and other degree programs of the ZHAW School of Management and Law.
Our continuing education programs include a number of certificate programs (DAS, CAS) as well as shorter continuing education courses and seminars on specific aspects of competition and commercial law. Effective prevention and efficient precautions are essential tools in today's economic environment. A range of courses and seminars therefore also address the topic of compliance.
Research and Consulting
In the field of research and development, we analyze legal doctrine and jurisprudence concerning competition law, arbitration law, and commercial law. Through various projects, we conduct scientific investigation into problems, especially those affecting the private sector, and publish our findings in various academic journals. In a global context, we also cooperate with international organizations such as the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the New York State Bar Association to ensure a cross-border transfer of knowledge and exchanges with specialists throughout the world.
We act as consultants to all interested individuals and corporations. SMEs in particular benefit from our collective know-how. In addition, we provide a consulting service to professional associations, organizations, and large corporations on legal matters.
The center regularly organizes and provides support at national and international conferences. An example is the well-established, bilingual, interdisciplinary conference series “Ateliers de la Concurrence” on competition policy and competition law, which has taken place since 2009.
Our Debating Competition (in German) invites “Young Talents & Professionals” to engage with each other and conference speakers on aspects of antitrust law and the competitive economy. Fascinating articles are published in Competition Law Update (in German), which reports on current developments in competition law and compliance. It was an honour to host the 18. Graduiertentreffen im internationalen Wirtschaftsrecht in 2017.
