Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning

«We promote the occupational development of skills for university teaching and enable lecturers to reflect on and further develop their professional practice. In addition, we explore and develop innovative teaching and learning approaches, placing our know-how at your disposal in the context of our consulting service.»

Prof. Dr. Claude Müller Werder Head, Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning

The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning is the competence center for university teaching at the ZHAW School of Management and Law. It focuses on degree programs, continuing education, and R&D issues in teaching and methodology, as well as the development of student competence. Our team utilizes the findings of current research in university teaching and your own experience as instructors in selected key modules, integrating these into practice-oriented training and continuous education activities. The Center has a particular focus on development and investigation into innovative teaching and learning approaches in the field of e-learning.

Teaching

The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning is responsible for the two BSc foundation modules: Introduction to Business Administration and Business Administration Skills. Both modules are part of the assessment stage, at the forefront of which are the development of methodological principles and the teaching of basic knowledge. With up to 1,200 students per module, the didactic and methodological design of the modules requires careful planning.

Continuing Education

Lecturers are faced with an increasingly demanding teaching role. With this in mind, the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning offers target-oriented and professional support to instructors with an up-to-date and sophisticated range of courses. They are equally suitable for those wanting to discover new ways of teaching as they are for experienced instructors. In addition to their differentiated content, the courses are highly flexible. Participants can pick up valuable didactic-methodological tips in an easily accessible form at our lunchtime events, a one- or two-day continuing education course, or by attending the three CAS programs "Higher & Professional Education" (Hochschuldidaktik), "Digital Learning" or "Technology & Media in Education". In addition, we also develop tailor-made continuing education programs on request.

Research and Development

As a center for innovative teaching, we are well placed to be involved in ongoing research. Though our accompanying research into individual teaching, we gain important knowledge for the validation and consolidation of our teaching innovations. At the same time, we take part in various national and international research programs to get new impulses, which we pass on through our teaching, professional services, and continuing education programs. Our IT Development section assists us by applying our ideas to new teaching applications.

Services

By linking teaching and research, the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning is able to offer a wide and comprehensive range of internal and external consulting and other services. The focal point of our work is the development and implementation of teaching and continuing education activities in the fields of didactics and methodology with an emphasis on ICT-supported teaching and learning. The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning fosters exchanges with internal and external interest groups on educational topics.
