Supplementary qualifications (minors)

In addition to your specialisation, you can acquire supplementary qualifications (minors) that focus on practically relevant topics.

A Minor is a compilation of subject-based elective modules that are spread over the 3rd to 6th semester. You can also attend each module individually. We recommend combining one or a maximum of two Minors with your specialisation. You have successfully completed a Minor if you have attended and passed all the associated modules. A Minor's attendance is confirmed with a certificate.

This minor is an interdisciplinary, methodological specialisation. It is aimed at students who wish to work in an advisory or didactic capacity in their field of expertise and covers topics that are increasingly required in the labour market.

The Minor enables you to

  • plan, carry out and evaluate learning events/excursions in a subject area
  • advise individuals and groups in a professional and goal-oriented manner
  • build up a repertoire of methods and communication techniques and use them accordingly

The Minor enables you to use scientific diagnosis and analysis methods in your field and in an interdisciplinary way.

This minor enables you to

  • current methodological knowledge, which can be used in professional practice to solve scientific problems
  • select methods appropriate to the questions from an available repertoire
  • organize and carry out the necessary work steps of a method in the field and laboratory
  • analyse the data collected, understand its meaning, communicate it and integrate it into an interdisciplinary framework

Students complete their bachelor thesis abroad, work in an internship International Cooperation in a project and study in an exchange semester at a partner university

This minor is aimed at those who would like to work in an international environment. In order to enter the international job market in the environmental sector, language skills and intercultural competence are essential in addition to professional competencies. The certificate attests the international activities carried out during the study period.

The implementation of subject-specific projects in an intercultural context is planned, carried out and reflected on in a chosen subject area. In addition to specialist know-how, language skills are central to the minor "International Profile".

The design of sustainable processes and products, right through to communication and ensuring that sustainability is recognisable, is becoming increasingly important for companies. Life cycle assessments and labels are suitable instruments. For future sustainability specialists, this minor offers an optimal qualification for the use of these instruments at all levels of the value chain.

The Minor enables you to

  • assess resource consumption (raw materials, water, land) and emissions in terms of their impact
  • identify and exploit the potential of sustainability in the value chains of food, energy and tourism
  • analyse and evaluate sustainability labels and to formulate measures for their establishment and expansion
  • draw up and assess life cycle assessments and to improve products and processes based on them
