Objectives and content

Target audience

Advanced training for professionals and ambitious amateurs who use drones and drone based remote sensing in a professional context. Potential participants may work for private companies, public sector or NGOs who use any kind of high resolution geodata.

Objectives

This course enables you:

  • to understand the properties and features of different drone- and sensor systems and interpret their different kinds of data;
  • to successfully plan, execute and process your own surveying mission;
  • generate, process and analyze different kinds of drone-based geodata (photogrammetric, multispectral, thermal);
  • produce and analyze derivative products of drone-based data such as orthophotos, classification results, digital elevation models, vegetation indices, etc.

Content

This course consists of the following content:

  • Basics of remote sensing and GIS
  • Applied knowledge of photogrammetry and structure form motion applications including corresponding processing and analyzing software.
  • Planning, realization and processing of your own drone mission with your own or ZHAW drone equipment
  • Photogrammetrical and analytical processing and analysis of different kinds of drone based remote sensing data (photogrammetric, multispectral, thermal) and their derivative products.

Methodology

The course applies different teaching methods such as expert presentations, case studies, group based project work, expert discussions, field work, etc.

More details about the implementation

The takes place over three days (Thursday until Saturday) on ZHAW Campus Wädenswil. On Campus, there are several challenging vegetation, topographical and geometrical setting for remote sensing applications.
