Workshop Aquaponics


Aquaponics, the combination of aquaculture and hydroponics, enables the simultaneous cultivation of fish and plants. Aquaponic technology can be designed in different ways. Depending on your wishes, the system can be designed for:

  • Home-growing system
  • Agriculture
  • Urban agriculture and vertical farming
  • Schools as a teaching object

Objectives and content

Target audience

The workshop is aimed at anyone interested in aquaponics, especially participants and former participants of the «FBA Aquaculture» as well as teachers who would like to build a small aquaponic system with their students.


You will gain insight into the basics of aquaponics and visit the facilities of the ZHAW in Wädenswil.


  • Nutrient cycle of an aquaponic system
  • Water quality requirements and nutrient concentrations
  • Plant and fish selection
  • Plant cultivation, integrated pest management
  • Procedure for planning and construction of the systems


This workshop includes various learning formats such as input presentations, in-depth group discussions with experts, and practice-oriented case studies.

Information for applicants

Registrations will be considered in the order in which they are received. The number of participants is limited.

Deadline for registration is 02.05.2022. In case of cancellation after this date, half of the conference fee will be charged and in case of no-show, the full fee will be charged.
