Preparation for the Bachelor programme

There are various ways for how you can optimally prepare yourself for the studies - whether using technical literature, bridging or brush-up courses. Orientation tests in mathematics or computer science help you for the self-assessment.

Mathematics

If you are unsure about your mathematics skills, we encourage you to take the orientation test. The orientation test examines your basic knowledge of mathematics, gives you an assessment of your skills and also offers the opportunity to strengthen the areas that you are less familiar with, for example by taking a preparatory or brush-up course.

We would also recommend the following book as a preparation for studying at a university of applied sciences:

  • Die Mathematik der technischen Berufsmaturität. Vorbereitung auf das Studium an der Fachhochschule: Hans Rudolf Schärer, Willi Meier, Stefan Niggli, hep-verlag; ISBN 978-3-03905-687-3.

Physics

As a preparation for the Electrical Engineering, Energy and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Process Engineering, Systems Engineering and Transportation Systems programmes, we recommend the following reading material:

  • Impulse. Grundlagen der Physik für Schweizer Maturitätsschulen: div. Autoren, Klett und Balmer Verlag; ISBN 978-3-264-83935-7.
  • Metzler Physik. Schülerband 11–13: Joachim Grehn, Joachim Krause, Schroedel; ISBN 978-3-507-10710-6.

We recommend the following book for the Aviation and Engineering Management programmes:

  • Physik. Ein systemdynamischer Zugang für die Sekundarstufe II: Thomas Borer, Peter Frommenwiler, Hans Fuchs, Hermann Knoll, Gabor Kopacsy, Werner Maurer, Edy Schütz, Kurt Studer, hep-Verlag; ISBN 3-03905-588-3.

Programming

As preparation for the Computer Science Bachelor programme, we recommend that you take the Programming orientation test. The orientation test examines your basic knowledge, gives you an assessment of your skills and also offers the opportunity to strengthen the areas that you are less familiar with.

The following book is used in the pre-course and regular programme:

  • Java lernen mit BlueJ: David J. Barnes und Michael Kölling, Pearson; ISBN 978-3-8689-4907-0.

We would also highly recommend the following preparatory reading material:

  • Clean Code. A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship: Robert C. Martin, Prentice Hall; ISBN 978-0-13-235088-4.
  • Java ist auch eine Insel: Christian Ullenboom, Rheinwerk Verlag; frei verfügbare Online-Version.
