SmartParking: Autonomously parking car

In the SmartParking project, the IMS developed an automatic parking car that is able to drive autonomously, detect and avoid obstacles and to safely park in a chosen parking space.

During the SmartParking project, the IMS developed a Smart based, autonomously parking car. The test vehicle is able to autonomously drive, recognize and avoid obstacles and to automatically park into predefined parking spaces.

The system is based on ultrasonic sensors, which continuously scan the environment of the car and thus are able to recognise obstacles and measure parking spots. The sensor data are processed in the system and used to control the servo and propulsion motors. Data exchange between the different system components is done over a CAN bus.
