Project Example: Anchor Escapement
A non-linear dynamic finite element analysis forms the basis for the mechanical optimisation of a Swiss anchor escapement in the time domain. The anchor escapement is the clock-setting element in almost all mechanical wristwatches.
By means of numerical simulation, the complicated kinematic and kinetic interaction of the individual escapement components can be studied in detail.
- Watch manufacturers who have only purchased escapement components can use this tool to design and lay out their own components very efficiently
- Secondly, the overall functionality of the anchor escapement can be optimised
- Finally, this tool also serves as a basis for the development of alternative mechanical escapements
The IMES is in contact with several watch and component manufacturers to work on their specific requirements for mechanical escapements.
