Leading House South Asia and Iran disburse research funds worth 280,000 Swiss francs

The Leading House South Asia and Iran at ZHAW is pleased to report the successful completion of its call for seed money grants 2018. This was the largest call ever launched by the Leading House, providing research funding of 280,000 Swiss francs. The goal of this call was to help Swiss researchers develop new or strengthen existing links with partner institutions in the region of the Leading House’s mandate.

Fifteen independent experts evaluated the 81 applications that were received. The experts represent the German, French and Italian-speaking part of Switzerland as well as all types of higher education institutions (universities, universities of applied sciences and universities of teacher education) and a wide range of academic disciplines. The number of women and men represented on the panel is roughly equal.

The experts approved 16 funding applications. In addition, the Leading House can co-finance 6 grant applications received by funding agencies in Iran. Within the ZHAW, the School of Health Professions and the School of Engineering are among the recipients. Other universities and research institutions are: Bern University of Applied Sciences, Zurich University of Education, Agroscope, EPFL, SUPSI, TPH, University of Basel, University of Fribourg, University of Geneva, University of Lausanne and University of Zurich. The foreign research partners are located in Iran, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

ZHAW is the Leading House since 2017

ZHAW is the leading house for South Asia and Iran from 2017 – 2020. ZHAW promotes and fosters scientific cooperation with key institutions in that region under a mandate of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI). Within the scope of this mandate, ZHAW coordinates the financing of joint research projects and fosters the mobility of young researchers in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Iran. ZHAW was especially chosen because of its focus on and competence in applied research and thanks to its expertise in South Asia and Iran. The mandate is coordinated by the ZHAW School of Management and Law.
