Applied Linguistics obtains SNSF professorship
The ZHAW is the only university of applied sciences in Switzerland to obtain one of the 42 professorships that the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) awarded this year. PD Dr. Juliane Schröter has chosen the School of Applied Linguistics to be the host institution for her project “Argumentation im politischen Diskurs in der Schweiz” (Argumentation in the political discourse in Switzerland), which will be funded by the SNSF with about 1.3 million Swiss francs from 2018 to 2021. This will enable the young researcher to establish her own research group with a total of four positions.
Juliane Schröter is a senior teaching and research associate at the University of Zurich. She studied at the University of Kassel, Saint Louis (USA) and Darmstadt, earned a doctorate at the University of Zurich in 2010 and a postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in 2015 with her project “Parting. Changes of a linguistic culture in the 19th and 20th century”.
The similarities in terms of content between PD Dr. Schröter’s project and the current research projects at the School of Applied Linguistics on the application-oriented analysis of energy discourse in Switzerland are expected to create synergies from which both parties can benefit.
