ZHAW takes over literature on the topic of ageing

In 2021, Pro Senectute Switzerland handed over all of its literature on the topic of ageing to the ZHAW.

Around 32,000 pieces of media were moved from Zurich to Winterthur in spring 2021 when the former Pro Senectute Switzerland Library handed over its specialist holdings on the topic of ageing to the ZHAW University Library in Winterthur. Since 1 April 2021, all library users have been able to access the new holdings on site. In addition to specialist literature in the fields of ageing and intergenerational relations, other topics such as care work, social work, psychology and matters related to housing are also covered. The works are offered at the ZHAW as part of the “Applied Gerontology” collection and are aimed at specialists from the field of ageing as well as elderly individuals and their relatives, students and researchers. One of the focus areas of applied gerontology is activation medicine. A large collection of activation games has thus also been prepared in full and made available for borrowing by the University Library.

Strengthening the area of applied gerontology

“With the relocation of the library, we have strengthened the area of applied gerontology, which will in future become increasingly important for the ZHAW in terms of its research and teaching activities. For this reason, we were absolutely delighted to be able to take on such a well-managed collection and to have the opportunity to develop it further with the help of experienced employees from Pro Senectute Switzerland,” says Gabriela Lüthi, Head of the ZHAW University Library. In connection with the assumption of the media holdings, it is planned for Pro Senectute Switzerland and the ZHAW to collaborate even more closely with each other going forward in the area of ageing research.
