New Bachelor’s programme in Data Science
The demand for data science specialists to design data-based services and products is constantly increasing. This is why the ZHAW School of Engineering now offers a Bachelor’s programme in Data Science, starting in the autumn semester 2021.
How can data be used for services and products in a profitable way? This question is increasingly gaining economic importance. As a result, the demand for new specialists in this area will grow over the next few years. At the forefront of this development are data scientists. Their profession combines classical engineering knowledge with skills associated with analytics, entrepreneurship and communication to form a unique combination. The ZHAW School of Engineering provides all the necessary skills for this in its new Bachelor’s programme in Data Science.
Bachelor’s-level study programmes in this field are still very new. In the Bachelor’s programme in Data Science, students acquire both expert skills in basic disciplines such as computer science, statistics and mathematics, as well as specific interdisciplinary domain knowledge to develop innovative data products. The Data Science programme covers all aspects from data acquisition, data editing to data analysis as well as data-based machine learning and the visualisation and implementation of data products. Other aspects, such as responsible data use, are also part of this programme. A practical approach is guaranteed, as students work on concrete projects in the first semester. Upon completing their studies, graduates will have opportunities wherever businesses want to improve the digitisation of their products and services by using data to better meet their customers’ needs.
