A clever network: the new ZHAW international affairs strategy

Joining our forces. Fine-tuning our profile. Strengthening our market position. Our goal is to develop an international appeal that goes beyond the individual beacons of the organisational units of the ZHAW. We have determined the goals and the direction for internationalising the ZHAW.

With the international affairs strategy 2025 we aim to further strengthen the international significance of the ZHAW, a goal developed by the International Affairs Office in 2020. The new international affairs strategy defines the strategy of the ZHAW regarding the three frameworks of organisational action: “environment”, “organisation” and “individual”.

Three frameworks

In the “environment” framework, the ZHAW takes the role of a driving force for socially relevant, yet agile and robust networking in competence hubs with selected educational institutions, authorities and industry – starting with networks in the greater area of Zurich and Switzerland, and moving to the German-speaking region, Europe and the rest of the world.

In the “organisation” framework, the ZHAW forms strategic international partnerships to participate as a university within the European concept of critical thinking. These partnerships span all ZHAW Schools and areas of activity and promote inter- and transdisciplinary research and teaching.

In the “individual” framework, the ZHAW systematically strengthens the international profile of its students and employees. For this purpose, the ZHAW combines “mobility abroad” with “internationalisation at home”. In doing so, the ZHAW develops, conveys and certifies expertise for intercultural mobility in a professional world that is interconnected in increasingly multifaceted ways.
