Online Datalab Seminar: Presentation of the CLAIRE Office Switzerland

CLAIRE (Confederation of Laboratories for AI Research in Europe) is a bottom up initiative by European researchers, now established as international non-for-profit association, that seeks to strengthen excellence in Artificial Intelligence (AI) research and innovation. CLAIRE is supported by +300 research groups from industry and academia and has been endorsed 9 European governments.

The CLAIRE Office Switzerland has been created in January 2020, with the support of ZHAW. Since then it has been endorsed by the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW) and an increasing number of groups including SGAICO, EPFL, ETHZ, University of Basel, HEIG-VD as well as SATW and other foundations.

CLAIRE collaborates with SATW and SGAICO on creating a taxonomy and map of AI-related activities in Switzerland and has recently launched a task force to identify ways in which AI and data science can help in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic. The CLAIRE office Switzerland is also involved in the development of the association industrial network. In  this talk, I  will present the CLAIRE network, give an update of current and future projects and discuss ways in which it can support the R&D community at ZHAW and Switzerland in general.

Speaker:

Ricardo Chavarriaga is the  head of the CLAIRE Office Switzerland (Claire-ai.org), Senior researcher at ZHAW and fellow at the Geneva Center for Security Policy (www.gcsp.ch/). He also chairs the IEEE Standards Association group on "Neurotechnologies for Brain-Machine Interfacing", is member of the MIT Tech Review global panel and advises the OECD on topics of responsible innovation. Ricardo has more than 12 years of experience in human-machine interaction, brain-machine interfaces, and artificial intelligence.
