Prof. Dr. Jack Rohrer, Head of section Cell Physiology and Cell Engineering

Now in its 18th edition, the three-day Summer School on Advanced Biotechnology brings together students and scientists from academia and industry; alternating between locations in Switzerland, Austria, and Italy. The 2024 edition will be hosted by the ZHAW in Wädenswil and feature sessions on environmental biotech, energy, drug development and delivery, biopharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and analytics. The programme will consist of short presentations from the Biotechnet member universities FHNW, HES-SO, University of Bern, ZHAW, University of Zürich, MCI Innsbruck, University of Palermo, and the Ulysseus European University Group.

It provides students with presentations on key issues and application challenges in biotechnology, covering the broad range of topics in advanced biotechnology.

Network with professors and students from these schools in an informal setting, just minutes from the beautiful Lake Zürich. Students will reside mostly at the Youth Hostel Richterswil in modern rooms, right near the water.

Impressions from past events

«Two things in particular stood out for me at the Summer School: firstly, the insights into current research projects, coupled with networking and exchanges with students from all over Europe. On the other hand, I found it exciting to be able to talk to people from various companies such as Roche, VTU or BASF and thus also gain insights into various companies.»
Marc (BA-CH-20HS)

«The summer school was brilliant and I would attend again at any time. There were two simultaneous lectures, and you were free to choose which one you wanted to attend. I also really appreciated the networking with students, lecturers and potential employers. The leisure activities such as city tours, hikes and going out rounded off the whole thing. If you want to learn something and have a great time with people who share the same interests, the Summer School is perfect for that.»
Chiara (BA-BT-20HS)

«I was able to benefit from the Summer School because I was able to make lots of new contacts with many different students and guest lecturers. It also helped me personally to decide on my specialization in my studies (biochemistry). The Job Café was also a good first insight into the later job search.»
Sarah (BA-CH-21HS)
