PhD position in DevOps and Artificial intelligence

Are you looking for an exciting research project for your PhD? Within the Research Group “Software Systems” of the Institute of Applied Information Technology (InIT), we are scouting excellent applicants to fill one PhD position in the area of DevOps, Cyber-physical Systems (CPS) development, testing and evolution. The successful candidate will work at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW in Winterthur.

The research project
The COSMOS H2020 project focuses on blending the best practices of DevOps solutions with the development processes used in the CPS context. The CPS pipelines developed in the project will be validated against five use cases provided by industrial partners representing healthcare, avionics, automotive, utility and railway sectors.

Your responsibilities

  • Contribute to research activities in the area of CPS development, continuous testing and evolution via DevOps practices
  • Become an expert in applying artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and developing DevOps solutions, to deliver CPS software more rapidly, while at the same time resulting in more secure and trustworthy CPS
  • Establish a strong research track record as well as a successful footprint in technology transfer

The ideal candidate has had prior exposure to and strong interest in the fields of DevOps, artificial intelligence (AI), and Software Engineering. Good communication skills in English are essential; a good command of German is a plus. The ideal candidate is passionate about identifying unsolved problems as well as proposing novel ideas for future activities. Particular emphasis is on developing advanced prototypes, scientific evaluation and publication of results. PhD candidate should hold a MSc degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related studies.

The Ph.D. student will have the opportunity to establish partnerships with industry, acquire funding for collaborative research and transfer research solutions to enterprise environments. The positions will also involve contributing to open source software and presenting results at scientific and industrial conferences.
