Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW is one of Switzerland’s largest multidisciplinary universities of applied sciences, with over 12,000 students and 3,000 faculty and staff.
The School of Applied Linguistics, located in Winterthur, is the only dedicated linguistics school in a Swiss university of applied sciences. Nearly 200 staff work in the school’s four activity areas – bringing a wide range of practical and scientific skills and experience to bear in the fields of teaching, continuing education, research & development and consultancy. Sound scientific research lies at the heart of the teaching they provide in BA and MA programmes and in continuing education courses in the institutes within the School.
As part of a 4-year federally-financed research project in the IUED Institute of Translation and Interpreting, we are inviting applications for the following position commencing 1 July 2018.
Research Associate – part-time (50 %)
Your duties will include:
- planning and carrying out interpreting process research
- data collection, recruitment of study participants, and data analysis
- documenting and archiving data and research literature
- providing supervision to junior researchers and student assistants
- project administration
You possess a PhD or equivalent in Interpreting Studies or in Applied Linguistics with a focus on interpreting, and have solid experience in empirical research, data analysis, and dissemination of research findings. You are flexible, have good people skills, and are able to work both independently and as part of a team. You have very high active and passive competence in German and English as well as good knowledge of one other Swiss language. Professional interpreting experience would be a distinct advantage.
