Round Table: Family Systems Care

What are the benefits for patients and families when a systemic approach to care is offered? What does this mean for interprofessional clinical practice and collaboration?

This round table discussion is an opportunity for the participants to examine further issues on the development of interprofessional Family Systems Care in clinical practice, teaching and research. Lorraine Wright and Janice Bell will offer an introduction to the research findings and outcomes when Family Systems Nursing is implemented and practiced. They will also share their reflections on the benefits and obstacles of interprofessional systemic care.

Representatives from the Swiss practice will offer an insight into their clinical experiences with the family systems approach in interprofessional teams. Health professionals from the various professions of the Department of Health ZHAW will also join the discussion.

  • Lorraine Wright, RN, PhD, practitioner, researcher and teacher for family systems nursing, co-developer of the Calgary Family Assessment and Intervention Models, of the Illness Beliefs Model and developer of the Trinity Model; professor emeritus in Nursing at the University of Calgary
  • Janice Bell, RN, PhD, practitioner, researcher and teacher for family systems nursing; co-developer of the Illness Beliefs Model, associate professor emeritus in Nursing at University of Calgary; founding editor of the Journal of Family Nursing
  • Daniela Stieger, nurse, Birgit Quecke, PhD, senior medical consultant, both working at the Ostschweizer Kinderspital, St.Gallen
  • Maya Christen, nurse, Ursula Böhme, midwife, Tanja Karen, PhD, senior medical consultant, all working at the University Hospital Zurich in the neonatology unit
  • Angela Nacke, occupational-therapist, director at the pluspunkt Zentrum in Jona and lecturer at ZHAW
  • Barbara Lüscher, physiotherapist, lecturer at the Institute of Physiotherapy at ZHAW
  • Karin Brendel-Hofmann, midwife, head of master‘s degree programme in Midwifery at ZHAW
