The focal points of the Center for Alternative Investments & Risk Management are research and teaching in the fields of investments, funds, hedge-funds, umbrella hedge funds and other alternative investments such as private equity or raw materials as well as the area covering financial and operational risk management.

One area of interest is in research and continuing education concerning funds of hedge funds, backed up since 2003 by the Transparency Council of Hedge Funds. The Council is made up of the following well-known banks and asset managers:

With the backing of the Transparency Council of Funds of Hedge Funds, Hedgegate – the leading Internet portal and comprehensive database for Swiss funds of hedge funds – came into being. Since 2008, this has been run by hedgeanalytics AG, a spin-off company belonging to ZHAW. They operate a rating system which is being developed within the framework of a CTI project in collaboration with Complementa AG.

In its continuing education program, the Center for Alternative Investments & Risk Management offers a MAS Risk Management Banking & Finance.
