Distributed systems embedded in processes, also called Cyber-Physical-Systems (CPS), as well as industrial communications solutions, form the core competencies of the Institute of Embedded Systems (InES). 

Thanks to their networking between themselves and the Internet, these systems make up the Internet of Things, which is increasingly pervading all spheres of life. 

The InES develops FPGA based hardware and software components tailored to your needs, and yet so flexible in design that the integrated circuits do not usually require to be physically modified for subsequent functional enhancements. We have a great deal of experience in developing functionally secure and reliable system architectures, which are for example used in the automation industry. With its high-quality reference implementations, InES offers rapid and low-risk access to innovative and cost-effective solutions and an efficient technology transfer from research to the industry. 

Our most important technologies are:

  • Ethernet-based, high-performance real-time communication (such as PROFINET, ETHERNET-IP, Time Sensitive Networks)
  • Time synchronisation via packet-oriented networks (IEEE 1588)
  • High-availability communications solutions (MRP, PRP, HSR etc.)
  • Energy automation (IEC 61850)
  • Self-sufficient systems (Low Energy Designs and Energy Harvesting)
  • Internet of Things and Ubiquitous Computing
  • Development methods for distributed Embedded Systems (model-based design of concurrent, interacting finite state machines)
