Welcome

InES, a R+D orientated institute of the School of Engineering, is primarily occupied with networked embedded systems in the automation industry. As one of the major R+D centres in real time communication systems we can offer clients and partners low-risk access to innovative and/or high-risk technologies. With a team of 40 graduate engineers our world-class experience in the technological foci listed below has made us the partner of choice for many leading Swiss companies.

  • Industrial communication – Real-Time Ethernet and field-bus systems
  • Precision time-synchronisation
  • Wireless communication, RFID  and energy harvesting
  • Distributed automation
  • Formal engineering methods for embedded system design
  • Process interfacing, visualisation and registration

InES presents lowest energy Ble tag at Embedded World 2012

This month, InES presented a very low power Ble(Bluetooth low energy) tag at the Embedded World 2012 conference in Nuremberg. The tag needs less than 60 microjoules to send a frame in all 3 ADV channels (at 0dBm). In a single channel mode, less that 25 microjoules is needed. Energy is spent to start the embedded system, process data and transmit the information. This allows tags to advertise their positions (coordinates) or send simple messages that can be processed by the receiving smart...

InES demonstrates Energy Harvesting on Ble

At Wireless Congress 2011 in Munich, Germany, the Institute of Embedded Systems presented work demonstrating the first known use of Ble (Bluetooth low energy) with sensor nodes powered only by energy harvesting. Very small solar cells are used to provide energy to nodes measuring temperature and humidity in an office environment. The results of the measurements are sent to a Ble host for display. Solar cells as small as the third of a 1 Euro coin can be used. The low power...
