Bachelor of Arts in Journalism / Organisational Communication

The B.A. degree programme in Journalism / Organisational Communication (JO) combines theory and practice. It prepares students for two basic career paths taken by communications professionals: a career in journalism or a career in organisational communication with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies.

Syllabus

This is a three-year course of study culminating in a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies on graduation. The syllabus is modular, enabling students to plan their studies individually and allocate their study time flexibly. Two modes are offered.

The entry level mode divides the syllabus into six semesters of on-campus study, incorporating numerous workshops and two practical work projects.

The experienced students mode offers a flexible course of study incorporating a high proportion of faculty-accompanied, self-directed learning in tutorials and intensive courses, complemented by internet-based learning resources.

Admission requirements

The following school-leaving examination diplomas qualify students to apply: Swiss vocational secondary school diploma (Berufsmatura), Swiss secondary school diploma (gymnasiale Matura), commercial diploma recognised by the Swiss Confederation on completion of three years’ study (eidgenössisch anerkanntes Handelsdiplom nach dreijähriger Ausbildung), Swiss specialised secondary school diploma awarded after three years’ study (Diplom-Mittelschul-Abschluss nach dreijähriger Ausbildung) or a Swiss specialised secondary school diploma (Fachmatura). Applicants must also be able to demonstrate that they have been employed for at least one year prior to commencing their studies.

Admissions procedure

Applicants who meet the enrolment criteria listed above are invited to attend an enrolment assessment interview conducted by the Institute of Applied Media Studies. Attendance at this interview is a pre-condition for enrolment.
